Track 9 from Out Beyond Ideas by Mandir

9. Out Beyond Ideas
For some time, I’ve been inspired by Coleman Barks’ translations of the poetry of Jellaluddin Rumi, the 12th century Sufi ecstatic. A few years ago, I was delighted to have the opportunity to accompany him during a reading. The arrangement of this poem came soon after.

Out beyond ideas of right doing and wrong doing,
There is a field. I’ll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass,
The world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase each other
Makes no sense.
